Great interview for The Children’s Hour with Keira and Mad Men’s Elizabeth Moss (Peggy Olson):
DC: Keira, turning to you. I remember just before you made your theatrical debut at this theatre in 2009, playing the actress Jennifer in The Misanthrope, the show’s director Thea Sharrock told me: “If for whatever reason it doesn’t work out, or she doesn’t enjoy it, I’m sure she will just go back to the movies.” Well, you had some fantastic reviews and you ended up with an Olivier award nomination. The fact that you’re back here again so soon suggests you had a good time – is that so?
Keira Knightley: I had an amazing time at The Misanthrope. I learnt a lot and I got completely fascinated by all of it. I had been offered quite a few things in the theatre before that but the script [by Martin Crimp] made me laugh and made me giggle. And I thought it was provocative – which I always like. I never have a plan about what I’m going to do, or what I’m not going to do, and it wasn’t my intention to do theatre again so soon.
But then my agent phoned up and said: “There’s this play that’s being directed by Ian Rickson” – and I said: “YES!”
